An integrated solar-powered system for remote sensing applications

Researcher:
Prof. R. Tamer Mekky Ahmed

Summary of project:

Integrating solar energy into modern aircraft technology has been a topic of interest and has received a lot of attention from researchers over the last two decades. A few among the many potential applications of this technology is the possibility of continuous self-sustained flight for purposes such as information relay, surveillance and monitoring as well as different remote sensing applications.

These applications require a lightweight, low speed, medium to long endurance aircrafts. Solar powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can be employed in many of the above mentioned missions due to its cost

The objective of the project:

Design, and manufacturing a remote sensing UAV

The most important outputs:

UAV design.
