Head of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences Attends Discussion of Master s Thesis on Using Smart Agriculture and Thermal Imaging to Develop an Early Warning System for Livestock Diseases

Dr. Abdelaziz Belal, Head of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS), attended the discussion of the master s thesis submitted by Aya Shawkat Abdel Moneim Abdel Kader El-Masry, a researcher in the Animal and Fish Production Department at the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University, at the faculty's Conference Hall.

The thesis was entitled: "A Novel Smart System for Early Detection of Mastitis Using Infrared Thermal Imaging and Its Association with Nutritional Factors in Dairy Cows."

The thesis focused on employing smart agriculture technologies and infrared thermal imaging to develop an intelligent early warning and disease detection system for livestock, with a specific application to mastitis in dairy cows and an investigation of its association with nutritional factors.

The proposed system enables the monitoring of early indicators of infection before the appearance of clear clinical symptoms, helping facilitate early intervention, limit disease spread and the resulting economic losses, improve animal health, and enhance production efficiency and milk quality.

The supervisory committee included Dr. Ali Mohamed Allam, Professor of Animal Nutrition at the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University; Dr. Sobhi Mohamed Salam, Professor of Animal Nutrition at the faculty; Dr. El-Sayed Metwally Badr, Professor of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence, Benha University; and Dr. Eman Ali El-Wakeel, Professor of Animal Nutrition at the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University.

The examination and discussion committee included Dr. Abdelaziz Belal, Professor of Smart Agriculture and Head of the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, as an external examiner; Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Salem, Professor of Animal Breeding at the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University, as an internal examiner; in addition to the supervisory committee representatives, Dr. Sobhi Mohamed Salam and Dr. El-Sayed Metwally Badr.

Following an extensive scientific discussion, the committee praised the thesis topic and its modern applications integrating animal production, nutrition, smart agriculture, and thermal imaging, and recommended awarding the researcher a master's degree.

Dr. Abdelaziz Belal emphasized that the use of smart agriculture technologies and thermal imaging to develop early warning systems represents an important applied direction for protecting livestock, given its role in the rapid detection of diseases, supporting decision-making, reducing losses, improving animal health, and enhancing production efficiency and quality.

At the conclusion of the discussion, the attendees congratulated the researcher and wished her continued success in her scientific and research career.
