History

NARSS is an outgrowth of a Remote Sensing Center, established in 1971 as an American-Egyptian joint project that was affiliated to the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. In 1994 the Authority was established as an organization under the State Ministry of Scientific Research to promote the use of state of the art space technology for the development of the country and introducing High Tech capabilities in regional planning and other applications.

NARSS is looking forward to become one of the best scientific agencies in conducting research and providing services in the field of remote sensing and Space Science

Mission

NARSS mission is to pursue, tansfer, and providethe most advanced technology in the fields of remote sensing and peaceful application of space Sciencies , and build the self capability to utilize these technologies to support the National development activities . 

Board

According to the presidential decree No 261 in 1992, NARSS board is the authorized entity that is eligible to run and control all activities and suggests the guiding principles and policies that are needed to fulfil NARSS mission.

This is in addition to marketing Department , eight supporting departments and a general secretary responsible for finance, personnel and administration .

ManPower

NARSS has forty staff members in different fields supported by similar number of specialists . Based on the actual needs of projects, this work force could be augmented by selected staff members from local universities and research centers.

Besides , there are more than a hundred experts working in space program and one hundred fifty personal in finance administrative , and personal affairs ;

Activities

  • Aerial photographing.
  • Using of satellite data and their applications in geological surveys, mineral exploration, soil classification, assessment of water resources, environmental studies, agriculture crops and fisheries resources surveys, lakes management, and planning of tourist projects.
  • Pursuing of global scientific and technical developments in NARSS related fields.
  • Participation in the technology transfer processes, and enhance cooperation with the corresponding organizations.
  • Conduct studies for exploring and managing of the natural resources.
